Temporary traffic lights installed today are reportedly making twenty-minute journeys take an hour and a half.
The lights in Highworth’s town centre are located on the A361 Swindon Road, which runs north from Swindon to Highworth.
They are on The Fox roundabout, the junction with Brewery Street and Shrivenham Road.
They are causing long queues on the road, which some drivers have reported as adding more than an hour to their journey time.
One said: “It’s taken me the best part of 45 - 60 minutes to get from Supermarine roundabout into Highworth this evening.
“A 20-minute journey has taken me an hour and a half today.”
Another echoed: “Anyone wanting to get to Swindon or to Highworth be prepared for an hour delay.”

A third reported that it had taken their husband 55 minutes to get from Supermarine roundabout, a third of the way to Highworth, to Highworth.
Although Swindon Borough Council is responsible for the road, the works are being completed by Energetics Electricity.
The company has permission to complete roadworks as late as 6pm, August 2 although this does not mean that they will take this long.
In April, Traffic coming in and out of Highworth was brought to a standstill after Thames Water launched roadworks at the same location.
