A car fire in Swindon was “starting to go up” when attended by the fire service.
Firefighters on William Morris Way yesterday evening were surrounded by smoke as they tackled the fire.
One crew from Stratton attended at 6.07pm on July 24 with two breather apparatus wearers using a hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze, close to Great Western Academy.
An eyewitness said: “The red Vauxhall was just starting to pop as the fire brigade arrived. I was trying to stop people from going closer.
“It did start to go up. I was concerned the fuel tank was going to go.”
At 6.43pm the fire had been put out and “the incident was left with the police”.
A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “We were called to William Morris Way in Tadpole Garden Village at 6.07pm last night (July 24) for a car on fire.
“One crew from Stratton attended and two breathing apparatus wearers used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.
“Our stop was at 6.43pm and the incident was left with the police.”
