Thousands of bikers are due to flood the streets of a Wiltshire town centre this weekend.

Calne Bike Meet, one of the largest free motorcycle events in Europe, will kick off on Saturday, July 27.

Bikes are expected to arrive in town throughout the morning and thousands of bikes ranging from vintage to the latest models will be on show during the day.

Riders will be able to take part in a ride out, leaving from the Tesco superstore at around 5pm, which will take them on a loop through Lyenham, Royal Wootton Bassett, Avebury, and back to Calne.

Wristbands for the ride out can be purchased on the day for £5, with the money going to chosen charities, and those taking part should meet at 4.45pm.

Live music will take place at the Howard Marshall stage on Church Street from around 10am, following a ribbon cutting at 9.50pm.

The line-up includes Crisis Talks, Herb Garden, Moretallica, El Toro, and End of Story.

This year’s event will raise money for three chosen charities.

These are Help for Heroes, which provides support for armed forces veterans, Motorcycle Action Group, a group campaigning for the interests and rights of riders, and The Rise Trust, which provides services for families in the North Wiltshire area.

Attendees have been reminded to bring cash as some vendors’ card readers may be unreliable due to the huge influx of people.
