Tens of thousands of people have flocked to Wiltshire for the county’s largest annual music festival.

WOMAD 2024 kicked off at Charlton Park in Malmesbury on Thursday, July 25, and the event has been ramping up ahead of the rest of the weekend.

The festivities got off to a wet start on Thursday morning, as rain fell, but the weather quickly improved on Friday as crowds began to grow.

Previous editions of the festival have attracted around 40,000 people and organisers are hoping for similar success this year.

Chris Smith, festival director, told this paper the weather would be key during the four-day festival.

But with sunny skies and high temperatures forecast for the weekend, organisers are feeling positive.

He said: “The weather is really key.

“It is the difference between this being the biggest or just wet and muddy.

“The weather forecast is very positive moving forward, despite our current autumnal state.

“So we feel very positive about the weather.”

WOMAD will feature of huge line-up of music and art across the weekend including musicians from over 50 different countries.

It calls itself the place to “hear the best music you’ve never heard before”.
