Two teenagers have been arrested after a pensioner was hospitalised following an attack in Swindon.

A 77-year-old man is said to have challenged a group of young people about their behaviour before he was assaulted and sustained a head injury.

The incident happened on Greenhill Road, Moredon at approximately 9:20pm on Monday, July 22.

Following an appeal for witnesses and further information, two 17-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of GBH.

Both have since been released with strict bail conditions and the victim has been released from hospital.

Swindon Chief Inspector Carly Nesbitt reassured the public that officers will be carrying out increased patrols in the area in the coming weeks.

She said: “In response to a number of reports of anti-social behaviour in the Greenhill Road area, we will have an increased policing presence and would urge any residents who may have concerns to speak with our officers when out and about.

“This particular incident will no doubt have caused concern within the community – please be reassured that we take reports of this nature seriously and our enquiries are ongoing.

“We’d like to thank the members of the community who responded to our initial appeal for information – this significantly helped us progress our enquiries and make these two arrests.”

Anyone who has not yet contacted police with information can report it by calling 101 and quoting crime reference number 54240086794, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
