Thunderstorms are forecast around Wiltshire later this week.
The Met Office has issued a yellow-level weather warning which comes into effect at midday on Thursday and lasts until midnight that evening.
A spokesperson said: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop on Thursday and may lead to some disruption.
"Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures "Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.
"There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.
"There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.
"There is a small chance of fast-flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life."
The weather warning covers much of England and parts of east Wales.
Temperatures are expected to range from 15 to 27 degrees Celsius on August 1.
The expected storms will follow a few days of scorching heat that sends the mercury up as high as 30C.
