Broken traffic lights near temporary roadworks are causing long queues of congestion in Swindon.
Traffic heading to and from the busy junction of Cheney Manor Road and Moredon Road, near the Farm Foods supermarket, was at a standstill on Thursday morning as temporary signals set up to guide vehicles around the partly-blocked mini-roundabout stopped working.
The Thames Water utility asset works began at 8am on Thursday, August 1, and are expected to continue until 6pm on Friday, August 2.
Traffic lights do not appear to be illuminated, causing confusion for drivers who are unsure if it is safe to proceed on their journeys.
One witness described the scene as "traffic chaos".
He added: "One person said it took half an hour to get from the Moonrakers to Rodbourne Cheney.
"The job has to be done but it's a busy junction and we wish there would have been some forewarning. It's crazy."
There are queues in three directions at the mini-roundabout.
Cheney Manor Road northbound is congested down to the junction with Alison Court.
Traffic on Moredon Road heading towards the junction is queueing from the junction with Wickdown Avenue.
One side of Whitworth Road is slow-moving between the Cheney Manor Road and Thames Avenue mini-roundabouts, though the side heading towards the Moonrakers is flowing as normal.
