A van flipped onto its side near deadly gas canisters in a dramatic town centre crash.
Shortly after 9am on Thursday, a car pulling out of the Milton Road junction struck a white van that witnesses claim had run a red light while driving along Faringdon Road towards the Park Lane roundabout.
The car suffered significant damage to its front bumper while the van overturned.
The van landed on its side on the pavement near the Health Hydro, facing the opposite direction to the one in which it had been travelling, and narrowly avoiding four orange gas canisters that were on the ground as part of ongoing renovation work to the Grade II* listed swimming baths.
Police coned off part of Faringdon Road between the Farnsby Street and Milton Road junctions heading away from the town centre. Bus services were diverted.
An officer warned pedestrians away from walking towards the Health Hydro, claiming that the gas canisters posed a potential safety risk.
One police car, one fire engine, and one ambulance attended the scene. No-one was seriously injured. The van driver appeared to have a wound dressing on one arm.
By 12pm, the vehicles had been recovered and the road was fully reopened, with traffic flowing as normal.
