The following cases were heard at Swindon Magistrates Court in recent days.

PURTON STOKE: Jason Maughan, of Crosslanes, has been sentenced for two thefts from a shop.

The 21-year-old indicated pleas of guilty to stealing, with the help of another unknown person, stole £887.93 from Williams Trade Only Plumbing and Heating Supplies and two Honeywell thermostats worth £165.88 from City Plumbing at Sevenoaks in Kent on June 13, 2024.

He received a community order that requires him to carry out three months of drug rehabilitation treatment and up to 10 rehabilitation activity days, as well as 90 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months.

He must also pay £85 in court costs plus £114 to fund victim services.

STRATTON: Kirk Ayres, of Ermin Street, has been sentenced for theft.

The 42-year-old indicated a plea of guilty to stealing a hydraulic breaker worth £4,000 which belonged to a Swindon man on August 19, 2023.

He received a 12-week prison sentence that has been suspended for 18 months and must carry out 12 months of drug rehabilitation as well as up to 35 rehabilitation activity days, and pay a £50 fine. 

TAW HILL: Dean Griffin, of Thetford Way, has been sentenced for drug driving.

The 26-year-old pleaded guilty to driving a Nissan 350Z on Mead Way on January 23, 2024, while having 3.5 micrograms of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol per litre of drug in his system.

He received a 36-month driving ban and must pay a fine of £200 as well as £85 in court costs plus £80 to fund victim services.

MOTORWAY: Christopher Stimpson, of Goldcrest Gardens in Didcot, has been sentenced for two counts of drug driving.

The 33-year-old pleaded guilty to driving a Vauxhall Mokka 2000 along the M4 near Swindon with 229 micrograms of Benzoylecgonine and 150 micrograms of methylamphetamine per litre of blood in his system.

He has been banned from driving for 30 months and ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months as well as pay £85 in court costs plus £114 to fund victim services.

MOTORWAY: Teixeria Alves, of Tynings Way in Lower Westwood, has been sentenced for three driving offences.

The 49-year-old pleaded guilty to driving a Mercedes Sprinter along the M4 in Swindon without a licence on January 25, 2024, after having his licence revoked on December 17, 2022, and without having insurance.

At the time, the vehicle was constructed or adapted to carry no more than eight seated passengers in addition to the driver.
 

The grooves of the tread pattern of a tyre fitted to the offside rear wheel of the vehicle were not of a depth of at least 1.6mm throughout a continuous band comprising the central three-quarters of the breadth of tread and round the entire outer circumference of the tyre.

The defendant received a £400 fine and six penalty points on their driving licence, and must also pay £85 in court costs plus £160 to fund victim services.

RODBOURNE: Grega Skapin, of Morrison Street, has been sentenced for theft from another person.

The 36-year-old indicated a plea of guilty to stealing £20 in cash from a woman in Swindon on May 22, 2024.

He must pay a fine of £833 as well as £85 in court costs plus £333 to fund victim services.

No compensation was deemed necessary as there was no loss or damage, the care home has already deducted the amount owed from his last wages.
