The end of Havelock Centre Stores has been confirmed after the owner of the building has seized control of it.
The Havelock Street Convenience store on Havelock Street is currently cutting a bedraggled figure among the row of busy retail outlets.
It used to offer everything that any person could need, from sandwiches and bread to beers and wines and dairy produce, as well as vegetables, newspapers, cards, cigarettes and tobacco, scratch cards and mobile phone top-ups.
Now it sits closed, its protruding awning remains out, but crooked, and a note on the door confirms that the landlords have changed the locks on the door, shutting the business' former owner out.
The note said: "To Mr Adeleke Titilayo Asekun. Take notice that Valeridge Ltd the landlord of these premises have today re-entered therein in accordance with their power to do so and as a consequence of such re-entry the premises have been secured.
"And further take notice that no person may lawfully enter onto these premises unless they have been authorised by the above.
"Any attempt by any person to enter these premises without the previous authority of Valeridge Ltd may amount to a criminal offence and result in prosecution."
The notice directs anyone with enquiries about the property to contact property agents Kilpatrick and Co at Delta Business Park, Welton Road.
The local property agents are now listing the building as available for lease.
It says the premises comprises a ground floor shop with ancillary storage and toilet and on the first floor level, there is a self-contained one-bedroom flat with kitchen, living room, and bath/WC.
They state that it is suitable for retail or alternative uses in class E, that it is on a busy pedestrianised street and that there is also the potential benefit of additional income from the flat.
The building is being advertised with a rent of £18,000 per annum and comes with a business rates liability of £7,485.
Viewing is strictly by appointment with sole agents Kilpatrick and Co on 01793 643101.
