The duration of a closure of the High Street of a Swindon town has been confirmed after a burst water pipe caused extensive damage.
The water main “erupted” on Cricklade’s High Street, flooding the road and cracking the surface.
Cricklade Town Council have confirmed that a closure of the road has been authorised until 11.59pm on Thursday, August 8 from Waylands to Calcutt Street.
The council added: “Water will also be turned off to some properties for a period of time.”
The pipe burst near Cricklade Town Hall yesterday morning, August 6, with Thames Water confirming they had responded around 10am.
An eyewitness shared: “Big delays on Cricklade High Street due to a water main that is just erupting right now, opposite the Town Hall.”
A diversion is in place during the closure via Ashton Road and the Cricklade Bypass. The diversion is estimated to take 20 minutes.
A Thames Water spokesperson said: “We have responded to reports of a burst pipe on Cricklade High Street.
“Our engineers are currently on site investigating, where a road closure will be put in place shortly.
“We are sorry for any disruption this will cause to local businesses, residents and motorists and would like them to know our teams are working to resolve the issue as quickly and safely as possible.”
