An elderly man who was crushed by a falling tree near Swindon has died, despite emergency services' best efforts.
Wiltshire Police were first called to the incident at Bowds Lane in Tockenham, just outside Lyneham at 11.30am on Tuesday, August 6, after reports that a tree had fallen on a man.
Police officers rushed to the scene, along with emergency responders from the South Western Ambulance Service, Wiltshire Air Ambulance and the Dorset & Wiltshire Fire Service.
But despite the best efforts of those attending, the man, who was in his 70s, died at the scene.
In total, one land ambulance, one air ambulance, a critical care car and multiple fire engines attended.
The man has not yet been named and it remains unclear what caused the tree to fall on him.
"We were called by the ambulance service shortly after 11.30am following a report that a tree had fallen on a man in Tockenham, near Lyneham," said a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police.
"Sadly, the man, who is aged in his 70s, died at the scene.
"We do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
"The man’s next of kin has been informed and our thoughts are with them at this time."
A spokesperson for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire Service added: "Two crews attended, from Royal Wootton Bassett and Westlea.
"Our stop was at 12.09pm and we had left the scene by 1.15pm."
