A town centre road has been dug up as weeks of work have just begun.
Part of Emlyn Square in the Railway Village has been closed off to traffic and workmen have started digging up and excavating the tarmac near the Mechanics Institute.
Vehicles turning left from Faringdon Road will still be able to continue towards London Street and Station Road but will be unable to turn left towards the Cricketers Arms, reach Exeter Street, or go past the Bakers Cafe.
People hoping to access that part of the area will have to go around via Park Lane and Church Place to park at Bristol Street.
Swindon Borough Council is overseeing the works, which began at around 1pm on Tuesday, August 6, and are expected to continue until 5pm on Friday, August 30.
It is installing a new concrete road relay as part of highway repair and maintenance work.
Nearby, the closed-off bus lane that connects Bristol Street to London Street has been revamped and reopened after new tarmac was laid and the layout of the pavement outside the pedestrian underpass was altered.
Further alterations and improvements to the wider Heritage Action Zone are ongoing.
