The driver of a HGV has been 'dealt with' by police after being caught sending messages while driving.
Wiltshire Police's Roads Policing Unit (RPU) were patrolling the M4 on Wednesday morning when they noticed that the driver of a Mercedes truck was distracted.
They were swiftly pulled over where officers discovered that they were sending messages on messaging app WhatsApp.
Using a mobile phone while driving is one of what Wiltshire Police has called 'the Fatal Five' and joins, speeding, drink and drug driving and not wearing a seatbelt as the leading causes of death on our county's roads.
A spokesperson for RPU shared the incident on the Wiltshire Specialist Operations Twitter/X page and condemned the driver because of what might have happened.
"The consequences of a collision involving a vehicle of this size do not bear thinking about," they said.
Members of the public responding to the social media post shared the same sentiment.
One person said: "Not paying attention really does not bear thinking about, I agree, [would] be like a tank hitting you at high speed."
Another added: "Dear god this is so frightening to think of the consequences. Hope that he got a talking to."
