A house thought to be once owned by a 'former Queen of England' is on the market with a guide price of more than £3,000,000
The 500-year-old Broughton Hall, near Lechlade, is believed to have been part of the divorce settlement of Anne of Cleeves, one of Henry VIII’s wives.
The house has nine bedrooms, seven baths and has been put on the market by Mountgrange Heritage for £3,795,000.
The seller says: “The major part of this handsome Grade II listed property dates back to Tudor times with later additions in 1680 and 1790”, calling it a “beautiful south-facing attached house of over 8,000 square feet” among five acres of land.
“The historical walk to an elegant stone pavilion still runs along the boundary of the garden."
Inside there is a tennis court, “a large utility room” and nearby “mainline connections to London Marylebone and Paddington”.
The house is filled with a museum-like collection of objects, including a hanging monkey, giant vases, animal heads and nativity figures.
One of the five reception rooms has a large coat of arms above the fireplace, the kitchen has a bright blue central island and other rooms are brightly wallpapered.
In another room is a zebra head set among frescoes of far-flung scenes.
One bedroom has a large copper bath in one corner raised on a platform, dwarfed by a huge wooden bed.
The agent continues: “Broughton Hall lies in the hamlet of Broughton Poggs between the market towns of Burford and Lechlade-on-Thames.
“Oxford Parkway is about 22 miles, as is Didcot, with mainline connections to London Marylebone and Paddington respectively.
“There is an excellent choice of local schools including Chandlings, Cott Hill, Abingdon, Radley and Cokethorpe.
“This Cotswold home is only a 30 minute drive from Daylesford and 40 minute drive from Soho Farmhouse.”
Zoopla records no previous listing history.
