A butcher counter has closed in a shop in Swindon Old Town and residents have expressed mixed feelings.
The Wood Street Foodhall has rebranded itself as a coffee shop called The Rockin’ Bean Coffee House and the butcher counter has been removed.
Some residents expressed their disappointment online. One said: “Sorry that the butchers has gone.
“I guess they can’t compete against the supermarket big boys, although the quality of their meat was lovely, and they were always happy to give advice on cuts of meat.”
Another added: “Loved buying meat bundles the quality was excellent. Shame it’s gone.”
However, others welcomed the rebrand on “Swindon’s nicest street”, saying it “sounds like a good addition”.
One said: “It’s a great place, it always has been and the staff and service are excellent.”
The business did not answer a request to comment but a statement on their website says: “Here at The Wood Street Foodhall we have made the tough decision to remove our butchery counter.
“We understand that our customers like our high standards and quality which is why we would like to recommend a close friend of ours to you, Lambourn Foodhall.”
It says that customers can find the same quality and affordability at this other location which uses the same sources of meat.
