Police reported a driver on the M4 after witnesses claimed he had been showing signs of road rage.

Officers responded to calls from the motorway near Swindon at around 5pm on Saturday, August 10.

The angry motorist had allegedly been "flashing folk, [making] impolite finger gestures, and erratic driving".

Roads Policing Unit officers intercepted the vehicle.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: "The driver failed to see us as he was too busy on his phone.

"Checks revealed he has a bald tyre and no driving licence too.

"The driver was reported for the mobile phone, bald tyre, and no insurance offences."

Pictures of the scene suggest that the driver was behind the wheel of a white van and that this vehicle was then seized by police.

There is not a specific offence for road rage, but it can still be reported to the police as the driver who is behaving badly may be breaking other rules of the road, such as driving dangerously, careless driving, driving without reasonable consideration for other road users, or lacking a licence or insurance.

Rule 147 of the Highway Code states: "Be considerate. Be careful of and considerate towards all types of road users, especially those requiring extra care."
