A busy road through Old Town has been closed for 10 days of road works.
Traffic is currently not able to travel along part of the B4289, known as Cricklade Street, near Christ Church, in either direction.
Swindon Borough Council has allowed Thames Water to carry out utility repair and maintenance work from 9am on Monday morning to 5pm on Friday, August 23.
Workers put up large blue barriers to block off the road between the junctions of Wood Street and Church Road.
There is some congestion further up the B4289, on the High Street stretch, tailing back to the junction with Newport Street. Delays are likely.
A 2.77 kilometre diversion route will send motorists along Newport Street, Devizes Road, Victoria Road, Groundwell Road, and Drove Road, and vice versa.
Emergency access will be maintained at all times.
