Police closed off the turning into Whitbourne Avenue, where the cars appeared to have collided, and one lane on Queens Drive while recovery of the vehicles was carried out.
Officers directed traffic to allow work at the scene to continue, and this caused some delays on Queens Drive heading south towards Coate Water.
The cars were removed from the scene by recovery vehicles at around 2.30pm and the route was fully reopened.
A spokesperson for the force said: “We were called to a two-vehicle collision at the junction of Queens Drive and Whitbourne Avenue shortly after 1.10pm today.
“Both drivers went to hospital as a precaution. Recovery was arranged and the scene was cleared by 2.30pm.”
