A suspected drink driver has been arrested after a car involved in a crash overturned, closing a Swindon A-road in the process.
The car was spotted “on its roof and in a hedge” by drivers on the A361 to Highworth on Sunday, August 11 around 3.30pm.
An eyewitness said: “Somehow a car has managed to do a somersault and end up in a field on the Highworth to Swindon road so there's police and ambulance with one side blocked so be prepared to slow and stop."
Wiltshire Police has arrested a man in his 20s on suspicion of drink driving. He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
A spokesperson for the roads policing unit posted on social media: “You can't park there sir!
“SCIT [serious collision investigations unit] arrested this driver for drink driving today and during interview the suspect also admitted to being on the mobile phone whilst driving at the point of the crash!”
With the statement the police also shared an image of a black car on its social media.
The car had lost its bumper and was lined with police tape. The road was temporarily closed but was reopened by 4.30pm.
