A Post Office is set to close in Swindon.
The branch in Hobley Parade on Hobley Drive has been confirmed as closing for good on August 30 following the resignation of the postmaster running it, and the withdrawal of the premises, a Costcutter, for Post Office use.
The Post Office has said that after a review of local services in Swindon, it will not be looking to replace it.
This means that Stratton St Margaret will be left without a Post Office and locals will have to venture to Beechcroft Road in Upper Stratton or Covingham Square, Covingham to access the over-the-counter services.
A Post Office spokesperson said: "The Post Office has undertaken a comprehensive review of the network to ensure that it continues to meet evolving customer needs in a very challenging economic climate.
"This review examined the network on a very detailed, local level, analysing customer demand and accessibility of Post Office products and services.
"Consequently, it has informed our plans for the network as we work to ensure that, our funding and resources are allocated to deliver maximum benefit for customers.
"At this time, therefore, we are not looking to replace Stratton St Margaret Post Office."
The spokesperson added: "We apologise for the inconvenience this closure may cause. We hope our customers will continue to use Post Office services."
Ward councillor for the area Matthew Vallender has shared the update from the Post Office local community pages on Facebook, stating that he would be doing "all he could" to bring a branch back to the area.
He said: "I will shortly be reaching out to local businesses to see if there are any expressions of interest to bring a Post Office back to Stratton. If anyone does have any suggestions, please do get in touch at MVallender@swindon.gov.uk.
"I’ll continue to do everything I can on my end to try and bring a Post Office back to Stratton."
The branch in question has only been open at its current location for just under two years, having opened inside the Costcutter in September 2022.
At the time, Post Office network provision lead Antoinette Chitty said: “We are delighted to soon be restoring a permanent Post Office to this area as we know how important a Post Office is to a community."
Before this, it was found at Rainer Place.
