A town centre pub in Swindon was forced to close “until further notice” after a fire broke out in the cellar.
Three fire crews were called to The Savoy in Regent Street shortly after 1.30pm on Tuesday, August 13.
The fire alarm was sounding, prompting an investigation, and firefighters found there had been a small blaze in the cellar of the Wetherspoon pub, which was out by the time they arrived.
Following the incident, the pub was forced to temporarily close its doors to customers and as of around 2.30pm remained shut.
A notice in the window advised customers the pub said: “Due to technical difficulties we have been forced to close the pub until further notice.
“We will be reopening as soon as the building has been deemed safe for customers.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
A fire service spokesperson added: “We were called to a public house on Regent Street, Swindon, at 1.34pm this afternoon (August 13) after reports that the alarm system was sounding.
“Three crews attended, from Swindon, Westlea, and Stratton, and an investigation found there had been a small fire in the cellar involving a compressor, which was out when we arrived.
“Our stop was at 1.52pm.”
