The revamped splash park at Coate Water is ready to open.

As the hot weather continues locals are eagerly anticipating the opening of the £475,000 facility - and they will not have to wait much longer because it is opening on Wednesday, August 14.

The flooring was installed last week and in the following days, a lot of the interactive splash park apparatus has been installed.

This equipment was tested on Monday ahead of the council announcing the opening for the following day on Tuesday evening, revealing it will be open daily between 11am and 6pm from now until the end of September.

Councillor Marina Strinkovsky, Swindon Borough Council’s cabinet member for planning and placemaking, said: “I’m delighted that the splash park is completed and ready to open. I can’t wait to see it being enjoyed by families from across the Borough.

“We want Coate Water to be a place that generations can enjoy for years to come, and making these improvements now is a big step towards that.”

During a council meeting at the end of July, Conservative councillor Dan Adams if Cllr Strinkovsky could promise it would be open by the end of the summer holidays.

In response, Cllr Strinkovsky said: "To reiterate the park will be open in the summertime during the summer.”

It had previously been said in a previous update provided by fellow cabinet member Chris Watts that the park would be opened in time for the summer holidays, but the local authority confirmed that the construction had been hit with delays in getting the specialised soft flooring from Spain through customs.

The splash park features a sloped design so wheelchair users can access the paddling pool as well as rumble strips, handrails and interactive elements located outside the wet zones.

The project is understood to have cost around £475,000 after the previous splash park that it replaced was eventually condemned after coming to the end of its life.

This follows the completion of a fully accessible play park being built at Coate Water, which opened in March 2023 and cost £500,000.
