Do you feel safe in the dark in Swindon?

That is just one of several questions the council is asking residents.

Swindon Borough Council has drawn up its annual residents’ survey and would like as many people living in Swindon as possible to  complete it, using this link.

The council said: “Like most local authorities across the country, the majority of our funding today is spent on providing social care services to look after and protect adults and children. The council is also responsible for a wide range of other services such as refuse collection, street cleaning, planning, education and road maintenance.

"By taking part in this survey, you’ll help us better understand what’s important to you, how we’re doing as a council and what we should focus on in the future.

The survey takes 10 minutes and responses will be treated with strict confidence. The survey outcomes will only be made public in ways that never identify those who took part, such as through anonymous statistics.”

There are 27 questions in total, although some need several answers.

The council asks whether residents feel safe in the area where they live both after dark and in the daytime.

It is also interested in how people feel about the town centre.

One question is: “How would you rate your overall view of Swindon town centre in meeting your needs?”

And residents are also asked: “What facilities or services would you use or like to see in Swindon town centre?“ and they are able to select as many items as they like from a long list including shops, pubs, a theatre, housing and green spaces,

Having introduced the full rollout of a food waste collection service last November Euclid Street is keen to see the service used by more people and it asks those who don’t use it or have stopped why – again allowing respondents to choose as many reasons as they like from a long list.

Other questions with multiple answers are:  “Thinking about living in Swindon, what are the three most important things to your household in making it a good place to live?” and “What, if any, are the three things that your household feel most need improving?”

Other questions include the level of satisfaction people have in living in Swindon, how they feel about the service they get from the council and whether it communicates and engages with residents well enough.

The survey remains open until September 1.
