A man has been arrested after a spate of alleged burglaries in Swindon town centre and Old Town.
Police were called to break-ins at Dotty’s Cafe and Expressions on Friday, August 9, after a suspect reportedly used a beer keg to smash in the doors of the premises.
A charity box was reported stolen from Expressions.
Officers believe the offender then broke into the Greggs bakery in Havelock Square by using a concrete bollard.
They allegedly made off with a charity box containing around £60 intended for good causes.
Following this incident the store window was boarded up and a notice informed customers of a temporary closure.
Police launched an investigation and on Wednesday, August 14, arrested a local man in his 40s on suspicion of three counts of non-dwelling burglary.
He remains in custody at Gablecross station for questioning.
Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Anyone with further information about the incidents should call 101 and quote crime reference number 54240093373.
“Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
