Si King and Lili Myers have shared how grateful they are after the 'remarkable' final Dave Day total was announced.

At the end of last month organisers of the event revealed that £127,318.62 would be going to two national charities in honour of Dave Myers' life.

This came after thousands of people came to Barrow on June 8 to celebrate the legacy that the Hairy Biker and beloved TV personality has left behind.

Si King, who led the procession on the day, said: "Thank you, it's a remarkable figure that's gone to charity.

"And you guys have done that - thank you, thank you, thank you, Dave would be so enormously proud of you, you're a good bunch."

The money will be split equally between the NSPCC Childline and the Institute of Cancer Research, two charities that were said to be closed to Dave's heart.

Last week, the latter organisation discussed the honour of receiving such a sizable donation in honour of someone who was so widely loved.

Lili, Dave's wife, added: "Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your generosity.

"And we can't forget that the two charities that are doing so much amazing work, they are benefitting and so many lives are going to be helped by this amount, thank you."

The original expectations for Dave Day were to see 5,000 bikers get involved, with £5,000 raised as a result, meaning reality has completely blown those initial dreams out of the water.

Alongside the tens of thousands of motorbike enthusiasts travelling from the capital to Cumbria, over 200,000 people waved an applauded the procession as they completed their journey.

This culminated in two events in Barrow, with town centre celebrations preceding a concert at Barrow Raiders' Northern Competitions Stadium - ticket sales of which also went to the final total.
