Fire crews rushed to a vehicle fire in Swindon after a power pack reportedly caught alight.
Firefighters were deployed from Stratton St Margaret Fire Station after the owner of a red car called for help.
A lithium ion battery power pack is believed to have decomposed and ignited, causing a blaze in the back seat of the vehicle.
Pictures taken with the owner’s consent show the severe damage this has done to the seats, which appear to have melted from the heat.
After the smoke was spotted and the fire service was called, the blaze was quickly extinguished.
But power pack owners have been warned of the potential danger posed by a lithium ion battery.
A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service spokesperson said: “Whites attended a small car fire this morning and took these pictures with the owner’s consent to highlight how quickly a lithium ion battery power pack can begin to decompose and ignite.
“Luckily the car owner was quick to spot the smoke and alerted Stratton Whites who quickly put it out.”
