Taking the fine dining concept and making it evoke memories of some of the best fast food you've ever eaten is certainly an interesting choice, but it might be Six By Nico's best one yet.

The restaurant which has opened at Oxford's Westgate Shopping Centre this year is only a short trip down the A420 from Swindon and it's certainly one that is worth it.

Not only does it make really interesting and affordable tasting menus, but it also brings the feel of fine dining to a more approachable level for the finances of most people, it also has an incredibly smart concept - each themed tasting menu only lasts for six weeks before a new one comes in.

I've had the pleasure of trying each of the menus so far, with The Chippy kicking things off and The Amalfi Coast following, but the current offering - Guilty Pleasures - is the best yet.

Throughout the six-course meal, you will, effectively, eat a breakfast muffin (from a well-known unnamed fast-food chain), a loaded potato skin, a cheeseburger or mac & cheese, a fish finger butty, fried chicken, and cookie dough - at least in taste.

But in reality, you are eating delicately put-together dishes like a salsicca bon bon, aged cheddar, truffle emulsion and egg yolk jam or aged beef tartare, house burger sauce, dill pickle, parmesan and beer battered cornichon.

It was truly delightful to eat these dishes and really realise how they did taste like their fast-food equivalent, but richer and nicer.

(Image: Newsquest) This fun, creative way to take food that we, as ordinary people who do indeed have our guilty pleasures, and make it an experience is the real strength of Six By Nico and that truly shines with this specific menu.

And as an aside from the food, the whole thing is elevated by its waiting staff. In a traditional fine dining setting, the chef would introduce the food, and a sommelier would introduce the wine, but I assume as one of the ways to keep costs lower, the staff do all of this at Six By Nico.

Six by Nico is indeed a pleasure to have within driving distance, and I certainly do not feel guilty about making that trip each time.

The Guilty Pleasures menu is running at Six By Nico Oxford until September 1.
