A man has been hospitalised with serious injuries after a High Street brawl which has led to one suspect being arrested.
The incident broke out just before midnight on Saturday night (August 17) when two groups of people began fighting in Royal Wootton Bassett's High Street.
Wiltshire Police and the South Western Ambulance Service were both called to the disorder, and officers from the scene say two men were allegedly assaulted.
One man in his 40s has been taken to hospital with serious injuries while another man, 37, has been arrested on suspicion of bodily harm.
Eyewitnesses have reported that this took place outside Oscar's, however this has not been confirmed by the emergency services.
"We were called to a disorder in Royal Wootton Bassett High Street shortly before midnight last night on August 17," said a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police.
"During an altercation between two groups of people, two men were assaulted.
"A man in his 40s was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries which are serious but not thought to be life-threatening.
"A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and also later arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm.
"He is currently in police custody."
Royal Wootton Bassett's High Street was closed by police officers while this disorder was dealt with, and locals say the road remained closed into the early hours of Sunday morning.
However, the High Street has now been reopened and traffic is flowing as usual.
