A grassroots group has launched a campaign to build a new community park in a Wiltshire town.
The newly formed Malmesbury Community Park group is bidding to create an outdoor space consisting of a skatepark, pump track, and multi-use games area.
This would compliment the town’s existing indoor facility and it is hoped the park would “enhance leisure and recreational opportunities” in the area.
Ali Scott, the group’s chair, has spoken of the importance of biking to her son Alfie.
She said: “Since Alfie started riding, he has gained huge amounts of confidence; physically, mentally, and in the sport.
“Alfie is visually impaired, and despite the challenges this brings, he has progressed significantly.”
Jo, one of eight trustees, added: “Inspired by the supportive South West skating community, we're eager to bring that experience to Malmesbury by creating an outdoor space.
“This will complement the existing indoor facility, which will continue offering coaching to ensure safe learning for everyone.”
The group plans to fund the creation and maintenance of the park by applying for funding from several sources, including community asset funds, Dyson, and Wiltshire Council.
A public consultation will be held on the project on October 3 when the plans will be outlined in more detail.
