A police sergeant has slammed the late-night violence that broke out in a town's high street at the weekend.
Officers were called to reports of a disorder on the main market town road shortly before midnight on Saturday, August 17.
During an altercation between two groups of people, two men were assaulted.
A man in his 40s was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries which are serious but not thought to be life-threatening.
A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing Grievous Bodily Harm with intent and Actual Bodily Harm.
He was taken to Gablecross custody for questioning and has since been released on bail while enquiries continue.
Sgt James Osment said: “Violence of this nature will not be tolerated in our towns and our officers were quick to attend this incident and make an arrest.
"Enquiries in relation to this are ongoing and we’d urge any witnesses to get in touch.”
