A motorist told police he was just 'checking the time' on his phone after being pulled over.
The professional lorry driver by trade was behind the wheel of his Mercedes car when officers from Wiltshire Police's Roads Policing Unit (RPU) spotted him using a handheld device.
When asked why he was using his phone he told them he was looking at the time.
This is when officers discovered that he was a professional lorry driver by trade, and already had three points on his licence.
The traffic spot was posted on the Wiltshire Specialist Operations Twitter/X page, which provides frequent updates on the county's RPU as well as its armed response teams.
The post said: "Yes you’ve guessed right. RPU with another driver using his phone. Another also just “checking the time” As he forgot to look at the clock on the dashboard… Lorry driver is his job, already on three points now with six more impending and a £200 fine."
The incident caused alarm from members of the public.
One person wrote in response: "My first thought on your second paragraph was 'I really hope he doesn't use his mobile when he drives his lorry'."
