A couple queued for four hours on the opening day of Jeremy Clarkson's new Oxfordshire pub.

The former Top Gear host bought The Windmill pub in Asthill, near Burford for around £1,000,000.

He has since renamed it as The Farmer's Dog and opened the doors to the watering holes on Friday to massive queues.

Lauren Hanly and Blake Jones from Gloucester were the first in the queue for the pub's opening.

They had been waiting for Mr Clarkson to open his doors since 8am on Friday morning.

The couple were the first through the door after the 64-year-old TV star greeted them and the rest of the queues at noon.

Alongside partner Lisa Hogan and fellow Clarkson's Farm stars Kaleb Cooper, Gerald Cooper and Charlie Ireland, he welcomed in the crowds.

Mr Clarkson spoke of how everything on the menu was made in Britain apart from the quinine in the tonic.

“We wanted to have that restaurant on the farm last year and we couldn’t, and pubs, they are all for sale,” he said.

“So, we thought instead of building a restaurant we would buy a pub.”

He described getting ready for the opening as “terribly stressful”.

“Everything… there’s just so many things about running a pub you don’t think about.

“Yesterday we had the soft opening and someone’s managed to smash the lavatory door.

“When you go to a festival and go in the bogs, you think, does your bathroom at home look like this? How can you break a bathroom door?”
