Thousands of people in Swindon and Wiltshire have signed to get a better deal on solar panels for their roof and the deadline has now been extended.

Swindon Borough Council is inviting people to sign up for its Solar Together scheme run in conjunction with Wiltshire Council and consumer buying experts iChoosr.

The scheme will source a deal for having solar panels, battery storage and electric vehicle chargers installed at home - and because so many people have signed up, it means the costs for individual householders will be lower.

This year’s scheme, following on from those run in the two late years, has already seen more than 3,700 people sign up for a quotation.

When all those interested are signed up, IChoosr will invite vetted installation firms to hold a reverse auction – competing to offer the best deal they can.

One resident who took advantage of previous sachems, said: “Our experience of Solar Together was great from start to finish. We signed up to just see what the cost might be and were pleasantly surprised that we could afford the quoted price.

“This very quickly moved to a survey and before we knew it, installation. A seamless service with excellent customer care throughout.”

Cllr Emma Bushell, Swindon Borough Council's deputy leader and cabinet member for organisational oversight, said: “There’s already been healthy interest in Solar Together with over 1,000 Swindon residents so far registering to understand more about how they could benefit from having a quality solar panel installation at a competitive price.

“Extending the registration window gives more residents the chance to find out and potentially benefit from the opportunity to generate their own renewable energy. Visit the Solar Together website to find out more and consider if this is right for you.”

There is no obligation to go ahead with purchasing solar panels if people register their interest. They will receive a personal recommendation which they can choose whether to accept or not.

The scheme is open for registrations in Wiltshire and Swindon and the new deadline is  Friday, September 13. Registration is free at solartogether.co.uk/swindon/home.
