A Jeremy Clarkson fan from Swindon was left “amazed” when he visited the star’s new pub and was served by the man himself.

Jeremy Clarkson officially opened his new venture The Farmer’s Dog in Oxfordshire, around 20 miles from Swindon, on Friday, August 23.

Neil Robinson, who lives in Swindon town centre, was among the crowds who visited the reopened venue on its first day.

Neil has been a fan of Jeremy Clarkson for many years and even attended a live recording of Top Gear back in 2009.

But when he and his friend arrived at the bar to order they were shocked to discover their pints would be pulled by the former Top Gear host.

The 36-year-old said: “He was behind the bar pulling pints for people, but he didn’t spend too long there so I was very lucky I got one from him.

“It was quite surreal to be honest, to be able to actually speak to him briefly and have a pint pulled.

“The pint was really nice, we got a Hawkstone beer and a cider, we were just chuffed and it was a crazy experience.”

Neil’s posts about the experience on X/Twitter have seen a huge reaction.

At the time of writing a picture of Jeremy Clarkson pouring his pint had been viewed nearly 500,000 times.

Long queues of people waited hours to get into the pub at first, but Neil arrived later after work and avoided the rush.

He added: “I was really lucky because I work not too far away and went a few hours after it opened, as soon as we got there we saw Jeremy Clarkson walk into the pub.

“I told him well done on his pub and he said thanks.

“It only took us about 20 minutes to get in and he was there the entire time, it was amazing.”

Reflecting on the experience, the Swindon native told the Adver he would recommend that others from the town make the trip to The Farmer’s Dog.

“It’s beautiful inside, there’s a grand piano and even a tractor mounted on the ceiling”, he said.

“It’s a really cosy pub and I think it would be a nice place to go at Christmas time as well.

“What I would say is you need to go with an open mind because people will go there hoping to see Clarkson but he won’t always be there.”
