Work is ongoing at a former social club in Swindon after plans to convert the property into housing were approved.

In March a proposal was accepted to turn the old RAF Association social club on Belle Vue Road, which shut for the last time in 2022, into three houses of multiple occupation.

Under these plans put forward by Brett Property Group, the two semi-detached buildings would be divided into three shared properties.

One of the units will have eight bedrooms, and the other two seven each, meaning the club could provide accommodation for up to 22 people.

Since these plans were approved, work has begun at the site, and large skips containing debris have been put in place.

The inside of the property now appears to be a construction site and work can be heard from outside the building.

During the planning process, the developers justified losing a community asset for housing by pointing out the poor condition of the building.

At the time a statement said: “These images provide proof that the properties in their current state are not fit for purpose and require substantial renovation and investment, which could potentially be discouraging new ownership, in order to be maintained as a useable community facility.”
