A man who hospitalised after an attack at the Foxhill motocross venue in Swindon has died from his injuries.
The victim, who has not yet been identified, was attacked at the scene of a four-day event held in Wanborough at around 9.15pm on Thursday evening.
Emergency services attended and confirmed that a man in his 30s had been assaulted and sustained 'significant injuries' which had left him in a 'life-threatening' condition for which he was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol for treatment.
The man suspected of carrying out the attack - Ben Starr, 34, of Woodside Avenue, Ripley - appeared in court at the weekend.
Wiltshire Police confirmed in a statement on Monday morning that the victim had died from his injuries in hospital on Sunday, August 25.
A spokesperson said: "Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time - they are being supported by specialist officers."
Starr has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent. He appeared at Swindon Magistrates' Court on Saturday and has been released on court bail until his next appearance on September 27.
Wiltshire Police previously said Starr was known to the victim.
The case is now being referred to the Major Crime Investigation Team and enquiries continue.
A cordon had been put in place at the sporting event while enquiries were being carried out enquiries are carried out.
Wiltshire Police also issued an appeal for any witnesses to get in touch.
"Anyone who witnessed the incident who we haven’t already spoken to is asked to contact us on 101 quoting log 322 of yesterday’s date," the spokesperson added.
VMXDN Foxhill is an annual event where members of the public gather for a number of days - this year from August 22 to 25 - to see a 'jam-packed' weekend of 90s and 00s motocross action using ‘vintage’ two-stroke machines.
People travel from all over the UK and camp at the venue before watching the races unfold on the local track which is often home to the British Motocross Championships.
This year's British Motorcross Championships which were due to take place in July were cancelled due to a lack of riders.
The venue witnessed another tragedy in May 2023 when motocross photographer Simon Mitchell died after being was hit by an unmanned bike during an event on Sunday, May 14.
