A driver has been caught by police allegedly hogging the middle lane of the M4 for the entire distance between two Wiltshire junctions.
The motorist, who was behind the wheel of a Renault Clio was followed by officer from the Roads Policing Unit between two M4 junctions in the county.
Police say the car remained in the middle lane of the carriageway the entire time, prompting officers to stop the vehicle.
The driver has since been offered an improvement course.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson added: “Roads Policing Unit followed the Clio for a whole junction as it held on to lane two.
“Stopped and a driver improvement course is being offered.”
In March National Highways launched a campaign urging drivers to cut out bad habits like middle lane hogging.
Rule 264 of the Highway Code warns motorists to stay in the left hand lane on the motorway unless overtaking.
A National Highways spokesperson added: “Driving in a middle lane is considered poor driving behaviour and is illegal.
“The middle lanes are for overtaking or providing more space for those who’ve stopped on the hard shoulder.
“It's essential to follow the Highway Code.
“Staying in a middle lane disrupts traffic flow and can be dangerous, causing congestion and increasing the risk of a collision.”
