Three men have been arrested after police stopped a car allegedly travelling at speeds of up to 140mph on the M4.
Shortly after 1am on Wednesday, August 28, officers from the Roads Policing Unit clocked a grey BMW M4401 heading east on the M4 from junction 16 at Swindon.
The vehicle was reportedly travelling at high speed and was then observed reaching speeds of between 130mph and 140mph between junction 15 and Membury Services, say police.
Officers stopped the vehicle at the service station and a roadside drugs wipe test was conducted.
The driver, a man in his 20s from London, allegedly tested positive for cannabis and was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
A substantial amount of cash and bank cards were allegedly discovered in the vehicle after a dog unit was deployed.
The driver and two passengers, a 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old man both from London, were all arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation.
They remain in custody for questioning at Gablecross Police Station.
Sgt Will Ayres, of RPU, said: “The vehicle immediately caught our attention due to the excessive speeds that it was travelling at.
“Driving at these speeds, and whilst under the influence of drugs, is extremely selfish and dangerous and puts the lives of road users at serious risk.”
