A thief who used stolen bank cards, shoplifted, and damaged several windows has been jailed.

The visibly injured Connor Kirkley, of no fixed abode in Park North, appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court for sentencing earlier this month.

The 29-year-old, pictured with black eyes and a cut on his face, admitted to a string of offences carried out in Swindon over the last year, including criminal damage, fraud by false representation, theft from a shop, handling stolen goods, and vehicle interference.

He caused £190 of damage to a man’s car window and interfered with a motor vehicle intending to steal it or goods inside of it on November 26, 2023, stole clothes worth £154.98 from TK Maxx on November 30, and then handled a man’s stolen bank cards on December 1 and used them to pay for goods worth £93.44 before making another unsuccessful attempt to pay for other items on the same date.

On January 20, 2024, he paid for goods worth £57 using a stolen bank card, made another unsuccessful attempt to pay for other goods, stole food worth £54.45 and £37 respectively from the Tesco Express in Toothill, and handled a victim’s stolen bank cards.

On June 16, 2024, Kirkley stole alcohol of an unknown value from the Marks and Spencer supermarket in Mannington and then caused £675 worth of damage to multiple windows belonging to Threshold Housing on the following day.

He has been jailed for 12 months due to the seriousness of the offences, and the fact that the defendant is a persistent offender who fails to comply with court orders.

There was no order to pay court costs.

Kirkley's previous appearances in court have related to him swiping at a Sainsbury's security guard with a capped needle in October 2020 while trying to steal several bottles of Jack Daniels whiskey from the Bridgemead branch of the supermarket chain.

At the time of this incident, he had been released on bail for shoplifting £125 of Lynx deodorant from Wilko and riding as a passenger in a stolen BMW in July 2020.

For possession of a bladed article, assault by beating, shoplifting and allowing himself to be carried in a vehicle that had been taken without consent. he was jailed for 12 months - a similar punishment to the one he has received now.

In 2017, he was jailed for 18 months after shoplifting £400 of Hugo Boss clothes and elbowing a Swindon Designer Outlet security guard who suffered a heart attack moments later.
