Model railway fans are looking ahead to this year's Swindon Railway Festival, which is now just over two weeks away.

Special exhibitions, unique traders, and more than 20 model rail layouts, will feature at the festival alongside iconic Swindon-built locomotives.

The event will take place from 10am to 5pm on both September 14 and 15 at the Steam Museum.

Organisers said the festival is the "perfect day out for any locomotive enthusiast and their family to experience the fine detail of the UK’s finest model railways".

Hatch Heritage & Steam Engineers will display a selection of their vintage traction engines on both days of the festival.

Visitors will see modelling demonstrations throughout the weekend and will have the chance to speak with specialist modellers for advice on loco and wagon building, soldering, and weathering techniques.

This year will also see an exclusive new area featuring vintage Hornby locomotives and Meccano displays, including a traction engine and train set.

Tickets for the event are on sale now and cost £14.50 for adults, £9.70 for children aged three to 15, and £11 for over 65s.

There are also a number of family ticket options and a 10 per cent discount for Steam season ticket holders.
