Parents from Swindon grieving the loss of their baby girl are among 10 families to have written and released songs in memory of their children.

The ‘Keepsake Circle’ project, supported by Helen & Douglas House children’s hospice, features personal, original songs from 10 families across Wiltshire and Oxfordshire.

For Swindon parents Holly and Jason Coe, whose daughter Jasmine died aged just five days old in 2015, the project has been vital to their healing journey.

The couple worked to create the song ‘Figure 8’ with The Voice UK singer Kiki Deville, whose own son Dexter died in 2007, and award-winning songwriter Angus Powell.

Heartbreaking lyrics include: "Little girl you'll always shine, hold my finger, hold it tight. We're gonna wrap our arms around you like a figure eight."

“It's been a long journey,” said Holly.

“But I think because Kiki has been through a similar journey with losing Dexter, we knew that we could relate to her, and she could relate to us. We felt that we had someone we could share Jasmine with.

“When we finally received the song, it was just incredible. The words just connected with us so much.

“The number eight, the finger around the hands are the things that we spoke about on that day so we had a real special connection with the song."

She added: “It's amazing to have this as a lasting tribute for our children, future grandchildren, wider family and friends.

“You get to have this incredible memory of your child’s life and that brings your child back into your world."

Helen & Douglas House was the local children’s hospice that supported Holly and Jason when their daughter died.

Andrea Lambert from Helen & Douglas House added: “I am so delighted we have been able to add the Keepsake Circle project to our bereavement services.

“We have seen how much the process of writing and producing a song in their child’s memory can help the families with their loss.

“It gives us a unique opportunity to work with those who come to us for talking therapies already and also those who do not use our traditional talking therapies."

The Helen & Douglas House Keepsake Circle album, which includes Jasmine's song, is now available to listen to or download on Spotify, iTunes, YouTube and Amazon.

All purchases of the album will be donated to Helen & Douglas House.
