Since the new recycling scheme was introduced in November last year, Swindon has recycled a tonne of rubbish - but how much exactly?
Well, Swindon Borough Council has helpfully converted the amount of waste that people in the town have recycled into double-decker buses.
A spokesperson for the local authority said: "Thanks to your efforts, we’ve recycled thousands of tonnes of waste since November 2023.
"Overall, Swindon has recycled the equivalent weight of 1,142 double-decker buses!"
Breaking that down for each recycling material, that’s the equivalent weight of 347 double-decker buses for paper, 266 for glass, 221 for cans and plastics and 308 for food waste."
The spokesperson added: "To recycle as much as possible, remember what you can put in your food waste caddy. This includes food leftovers and plate scrapings, eggs, tea bags and coffee grounds, meat and fish, raw and cooked food, bones (from meat, poultry or fish), cooking oil, lard and fats, and pet food.
"If you're ever unsure if something can be recycled, you can search it on our website using the Waste Wizard, which tells you where to place it."
