The following cases were heard at Swindon Magistrates Group earlier this week.

OLD TOWN: Harry Andrews, of Evelyn Street, has been sentenced for drink driving.

The 32-year-old pleaded guilty to driving a Ford Focus along Turnpike Road on July 20, 2024, after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in his breath, namely 110 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, exceeded the prescribed limit.

He has been banned from driving for 25 months and received a community order that requires him to carry out six months of alcohol treatment, 12 months of mental health treatment, 80 hours of unpaid work, and up to 10 rehabilitation activity days.

The defendant must pay £85 in court costs and £114 to fund victim services.

MOTORWAY: Toby Moxham, of Wick Hill in Bremhill, has been sentenced for two driving offences.

The 22-year-old pleaded guilty to driving a Volkswagen Golf along the M4 near Swindon at more than 70mph and while his front near-side wheel was fitted with a pneumatic tyre that had a lump, bulge or tear caused by the separation or partial failure of its structure.

He received six penalty points on his driving licence and must pay a fine of £200 as well as £90 in court costs plus £80 to fund victim services.

CRICKLADE: Anthony Watson, of Calcutt Street, has been sentenced for using threatening or abusive words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

The 34-year-old pleaded guilty to committing the offence in Swindon on June 22, 2024, and must now pay a fine of £40 as well as £85 in court costs.

The 38-year-old pleaded guilty to hitting two women in Swindon on June 9, 2024, assaulting a man in Swindon on August 30, 2024, and breaching a non-molestation order by contacting one of the female victims multiple times via phone calls and text messages on July 21, 2024, which an order made by the courts on June 17, 2024, prohibited him from doing.

He has been jailed for 18 weeks altogether due to the seriousness of the offences, the defendant’s previous record of committing similar offences, his persistent and serious breaches of imposed orders, and the fact that these latest attacks were domestic violence-related.

KINGSHILL: Henry Waigo, of Radnor Street, has been sentenced for two offences.

The 41-year-old pleaded guilty to failing to surrender to custody at Swindon Magistrates Court on July 9, 2024, having been released on bail in criminal proceedings from Swindon Police Station on June 20.

He also indicated a plea of guilty to possessing a quantity of cannabis in Swindon on June 20.

The defendant must pay a fine of £80 and £48 to fund victim services.

The Class B drug has been forfeited and destroyed.
