Burglars wearing covid-style facemasks have been targeting houses in Wiltshire, leading to a police warning.
A number of remote properties near Chippenham in Lower North Wraxall and West Kington have been hit, with thieves taking jewellery and cash.
The offenders are thought to be targeting properties just north of the A420, which are described as “large, old and not overlooked by neighbours”.
PC Ashton Schorah, of the burglary team, continued: “Due to their structure the offenders seem to force entry quickly.
“We would urge homeowners to follow our advice on our website and think about fitting CCTV.
"We believe the suspects are using large vehicles with cloned number plates. They are also wearing covid-style face masks.
“They are parking up in laybys and then approaching the houses on foot and entering them when empty.
"We'd urge anyone who sees a large vehicle that they do not recognise parked up to contact police straight away on 999."
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson added that burglary remains a top priority and residents may see an increased police presence.
They stressed the importance of taking home security seriously, being vigilant neighbours and reporting suspicious activity.
