Residents on a street in Old Town are celebrating the competition of a six month project.

Those living on Kent Road say they've been keen to brighten up the street for a while now, so six months ago resident Rachel Rance set out to work with parish councillors to build a community garden.

The project has seen a new raised bed community planter installed for locals to enjoy.

Staff at Hillier funeral home, who sponsored the plans, joined with residents of Kent Road and South Swindon Parish councillors on August 31 to celebrate the achievement.

“We really wanted to brighten up the local area and a community-raised bed seemed a great idea to reflect the spirit of our neighbourhood," said Kent Road resident Rachel, who led the project.

"We would like to say thank you to South Swindon Parish councillors and staff from Swindon Borough Council for their support and advice in the planning and instalment of the raised bed, as well as Hillier Funeral Home for their generous sponsorship.”

Margie, another resident, added, “We all work together to organise events like street parties and now we have our lovely planter.”

Going forward, Kent Road residents now hope to build another community planter containing sensory plants, as part of their mission to turn their street into a nature-filled community space.
