A popular shop with a unique selling point will temporarily close while it relocates to new premises.

Matthew and Michelle Aherne opened Weigh It Up at the top of Highworth’s High Street after refitting an old Betfred bookmakers in November 2022.

Their £40,000 investment has paid off as customers have flocked to support the start-up and its eco-friendly ethos, which focuses on renewably-sourced products, recyclable material, and reducing waste.

For example, one wall is covered by a refill station offering seeds, beans, snacks, pasta shapes, and an assortment of other goods which can be collected in paper bags available in-store or in containers brought from home, then weighed and paid for – which is where the name of the shop comes from.

After running the business for nearly two years and achieving a five-out-of-five food hygiene rating, the couple have jumped at the chance to switch sites and settle into a larger building nearby.

The store will move from the corner of Swindon Street to the heart of Highworth’s market square, on 41 High Street, giving a new lease of life to the TT Linnett coffee shop and café that closed in January.

The Ahernes announced on social media: “We are massively excited to let you all know that Weigh It Up is moving to bigger premises.

“We will be closing the shop for two weeks at the end of September and re-opening mid October.

“So please come and get all your essentials refills top up everything you need to see you through those first two weeks in October.

“We won't be running stock down before we move so all your favourite products should be in stock.

“In fact we are still getting new things in all the time, so pop in and see us and check out what's new.

“Please do share this news with friends so all our lovely customers who may not see this post get to know.

“Thanks to everyone for your offers of help and support to move, we really couldn't do it with out you.

“We look forward to sharing the next stage of the adventure with you all.

“Scary but exciting!”

The store also includes a pick-and-mix station with a classic mixture of sweet treats, while other displays sell cookbooks, drinks, and unusual ingredients.

Shelves full of gifts, cards, plants in peat-free pots, alcoholic drinks, and non-bio laundry detergent/hand soap/fabric conditioner fill the other side of the shop.
