Work on the £33 million redevelopment of Fleming Way is progressing well.

The town centre road is being lowered to the level of the old underpass near The Parade and given a new layout which will turn it into a hub for bus services.

Parts of the main route through the town centre appear to be nearing completion, as the tarmac has been laid and sidings installed along a section near the Newbridge Square offices and Zurich's HQ in Unity Place.

One junction is open to traffic from Milford Street.

The new version of the highway comes to an abrupt halt just before it reaches the Princes Street junction as the lower, muddier layers of the road surface can be seen.

The junction itself looks closest to being fully finished, though it is still surrounded and fences and cones to prevent drivers accessing it before the full stretch of Fleming Way is redeveloped.

All buses previously operating from Swindon bus station and from Fleming Way will leave from a single location that also serves inter-urban bus and coach services.

Work on the scheme began in September 2022 and is due to be completed by autumn 2025.
