A Korean takeaway restaurant which previously held a low food hygiene rating has been reinspected.

The Bap in Swindon town centre, located in the Brunel Shopping centre, was visited by food hygiene inspectors on June 10 and rated a two out of five, leaving the owner, DJ Kim, feeling "disappointed" but determined to make improvements.

In July, he told the Advertiser that the two main issues were labelling and staff hygiene, as one member of staff had handled food without washing their hands.

But food safety officers returned on August 15 and awarded the eatery the highest score of five.

DJ Kim said: “We did everything the inspector requested, our staff have done all the hygiene training and completed the course. We were very confident, last time we made some mistakes and it was my fault, but we have five’s at our two other branches, so we weren’t that nervous.

“I’m going to treat the staff, we’re going to go for dinner altogether. They worked hard because they studied and had to complete the hygiene course at the same time as having to work and I really appreciate their hard work.

“It’s fairly busy. I haven’t increased any prices so far but a lot of shops have. In London you can’t buy any lunch for less than £10, but our main dishes are less than £8 – it’s a very competitive price.

"A lot of customers are happy with the price so I want to keep it the same, for that reason we’re getting more customers at all the branches.

“In Swindon there’s not many food places like us so I’m really glad customers keep coming back. As long as the customers are happy then it’s good and from looking at the Google reviews I can see they are happy at the moment.”

"I’m very happy, we will keep doing things like that to keep the score. It was a good lesson."

Following the success of his branches in Swindon, Reading and Farnborough, DJ Kim revealed he is planning to bring The Bap to Bristol next year and hopes to open the takeaway restaurant near the entrance of the University of Bristol.
