101 homes as part of the expanding Wichelstowe Canalside development are set to go on sale.
The new homes, which will go up for sale in early 2025, will include a mixture of one and two-bedroom apartments, as well as three and four-bedroom houses, and are set to significantly expand the Wichelstowe community.
All apartments will include balconies, floor-to-ceiling windows and two parking spaces, with additional access to EV charging.
According to developer David Wilson Homes, the homes are expected to go quickly, after the first phase saw 99 houses and flats sold within two years.
In total, the Wichelstowe development aims to deliver 3,000 new homes along with new schools and community facilities over 20 years, all based on a 250-hectare site in South Swindon.
“The upcoming Canalside homes will offer residents energy-efficient living in a vibrant environment, with the added convenience of having everything they need within walking distance,” said Louise Ware, sales director for Barratt David Wilson Homes South West.
“It’s an exciting time for new buyers looking to become part of this growing community.”
The development is being delivered as a joint project between Swindon Borough Council and Barratt Developments, and the housebuilders claim that sustainability remains a key focus.
The homes will include modern building techniques such as timber frame construction and energy generation features such as photovoltaic panels.
Of the 99 homes sold in phase one of the housing development project, more than 75 per cent of those went to first-time buyers.
It’s expected that some phase two properties at Canalside will also be available with the Own New Rate Reducer mortgage product which will bring lower rates to new home buyers, as well as the Key Worker Deposit Contribution Scheme.
Councillor Kevin Small, Swindon Borough Council's cabinet member for finance, said: “We're looking forward to working in partnership with Barratt David Wilson Homes to deliver the next phase of development, promising not only more housing but also expansive public green spaces and dedicated areas for nature conservation and delivering on our missions to build a better and greener Swindon.
“This endeavour isn't just about construction - it's about nurturing a community and preserving our natural environment for generations to come.”
